NEETS in Tower Hamlets

After a break from the Blog, a positive story on the falling level of NEETs (not in employment, education or training) aged 16-18. The actual number of NEETs in the borough has increased over the past four years, but not to the same rate as the number of teenagers aged 16-19, which I think is a reasonably positive story.

Between 2009 and 2012 the proportion of the 16-18 population classed as NEET, fell from 6.0 to 4.9 per cent. LBTH's rate is above London as a whole but the difference has reduced as the level of NEETs have fallen faster than across the rest of London.

Whilst LBTH's trend is pretty steady, the neighbouring boroughs have had different experiences. Newham started at a higher level and is now at a similar level to LBTH; Hackney is a bit erratic and Islington's level of NEETs, which in 2009 was comparatively high, continues to grow.
