UPDATED First go: mapping the journeys of Boris Bikes from Wapping and Shadwell

Having acquired the access to (and downloaded) 800mb of journey data for Boris bike hires, I've started the arduous process of consolidating and analyzing it. To plot the data requires some coding, and to check my coding is correct I've produced this test map, showing journeys in January and the beginning of February 2013 which started at a docking station in Wapping or Shadwell. As this is only one month, colour coding the journeys is tricky as a large number of journeys only ocurred once or twice. Once I stitch the separate monthly files together, I will try and look at some patterns and trends in depth.

Trying to unmask the wood for the trees, I've plotted the individual points. 1-9 journeys is a green dot, 10-19 is yellow, 20-74 is pink, 75-149 is a purple pin and 150+ is a red pin. As you can see, shorter journeys are the most frequent and people in Wapping and Shadwell use Boris bikes a lot to get around the local area.

I've also pulled out the ten most common journeys originating in Wapping or Shadwell. Number 1 is people off to The City and number 2 looks like either workers at Thomas More Square going to Wapping Station, or, shoppers leaving Waitrose. Interestingly 9 of the 10 most common journeys in this period were entirely within Wapping and Shadwell.
